“Consequences, the author’s project by Roman Nikolić, , closes the trilogy of the Arterarij association about disenfranchised and vulnerable social groups. After the plays let’s look (2016) and Čekanja (2017), which dealt with the position, discrimination and prejudices towards Roma and asylum seekers, this time Nikolić deals with consequences of violence on women. Unlike the previous two projects in which members of the aforementioned groups were on stage, this time the performers are professional actresses – Mirej Stanic and Irena Tereza Prpic. However, this time too the process was based on documentary materials, personal testimonies, real experiences.
Simultaneously gentle and brutal, direct and subtle, the stage language developed by Romano Nikolić in his previous projects is also present in Posljedice. Wanting to avoid shocking, victimization and pathos, phenomena that usually accompany stories about violence, this play insists on showing the complexity and layering of factors involved in the production of various forms of violence in society, from verbal to psychological to sexual and physical, from family violence through the war to the institutional one.
Conservative media representation of gender roles, ubiquitous stigmatization of victims, unfair distribution of housework, dysfunctional legal framework, in turn become elements whose sum solves the equation of social responsibility behind the destroyed lives of hundreds, thousands, an infinite number of women.” Jasna Jasna Žmak
In addition to Nikolić, the author’s team also includes Jasna Jasna Žmak (dramaturgy), Nikolina Medak (movement), Ana Fucijaš (costume design) and Sandra Petrž, who appears on stage as herself.
